Everyday Life Lessons

In the past 5 decades I’ve learned so many different things.  Some good and some bad. Some worth remembering and some not. What I’ve learned throughout these years are some everyday life lessons that carry me through each and everyday.  Without them, I feel lost.  I actively practice each everyday life lesson daily.  As a guiding everday life, lesson I’ve found that negativity takes you no where. Positivism takes you everywhere! If you don’t take anything away from these everyday life lessons, take this: Positivism takes you everywhere. Here are the 20 thoughts I try to practice everyday as part of my everyday life lessons.

Everyday Life Lessons for Everyone

  • Start each day with a positive thought.  This sounds so simple, but it is a guiding light for me.  It sets the mood for the entire day.
  • Don’t let yesterday take up today. The past controls you only if you allow it.  It should be used as a lesson but nothing else.
  • Wash your face every morning and every night. It’s funny how something so insignificant can do so much for your self image.  Try it and see what I mean.
  • Give yourself ‘me’ time. It’s easy to allow all your outside influences take over and guide you.  Take some time frequently throughout the day for yourself.  It’s all about ‘you’ during these times.
  • Get some form of exercise during the day. Ideally, you should exercise at least 30 minutes everyday.  If that seems impossible, cut it to 5 days a week.  Even on the days you don’t exercise, take a walk.
  • Don’t underestimate the importance of SPF, in sun or rain. Protect the largest organ in your body each day.  Apply, at minimum, an SPF 15 to your face and exposed skin.  You will not only decrease your chances of skin cancer, but you will look younger.
  • Never grocery shop when you’re hungry.  Have you ever walked down the aisle of a grocery store and found yourself salivating? Point made! Have a grocery list, stick to it, and don’t shop unless you’re satiated.
  • Set a time to turn off from social media. Shut down your smart phone or computer at a certain time each day and leave it sitting quietly away from you.  Check the ‘settings’ to turn off notifications.  They can dominate you otherwise.
  • Buy less, choose well.  Decrease your food portions and read the ingredient label.  If you can’t pronounce it – don’t buy it.  Science has proven the fewer calories you consume in your life, the longer you are likely to live.
  • Always do what you’re afraid to do.  Taking chances (non life-threatening ones) keeps you from becoming stagnant.  Always move forward.
  • Drink water according to thirst.  Your body has a mechanism that tells you when you need water.  Don’t drink too much or too little.  Listen to your thirst mechanism.
  • Don’t wait for opportunity, create it.  Never think that today is a lucky day.  Instead, create it.
  • Find something you love about yourself everyday.  Look to your inner self. Don’t be narcissistic but rather be happy for who you are.
  • Remember that only you are in charge of how you feel.  Sometimes feelings are uncontrollable.  If they gain control, step back and take charge.  You can change how you feel.
  • The past is a place of reference, not residence.  Let the past be a lesson and not a place you live.
  • Give out too many compliments.  Change someone’s life.  A simple compliment can bring joy to you and the recipient.
  • Never sacrifice your character, morals or integrity.  Enough said.
  • Live each day to the fullest.  You will never live today again.  Rejoice in the uniqueness of each day.
  • Love and Passion.  Without these, our lives are meaningless.
  • Faith in God.  Faith drives all else.

These Everyday Life Lessons will add to your life in many ways.  Your spirit, health and relationship with others will improve if you make these Everyday Life Lessons deeply ingrained in all aspects of living!
